Confucius once said that ‘it is better to travel one mile than to read a thousand books’… This idea has put me on a journey that has lasted for nearly three decades thus far and eventually landed me in Thailand. After learning the local vernacular at university level I was able to gain an in-depth knowledge of this fascinating country which enabled me to shed some light on the sometimes obscure and enigmatic cultural aspects of a society much shrouded in myth and legend. Over time I increasingly expanded my horizon well beyond the political borders of Thailand, to the larger contiguous area of the Far East, including much of Southeast Asia, as well as South and East Asia, allowing for a better understanding of Thailand’s historical and cultural roots in a wider context and that strongly influenced its rich heritage. Based in Bangkok, the so-called Big Mango, I never had a dull moment in this amazing country, much of which still awaits to be explored even more and that never has stopped surprising me, even after all these years… I hope I may one day welcome you in my adapted homeland so I can share with you the many treasures this wonderful country has to offer!
